Oxygen Music Works out of New York has just unveiled some new drum n bass releases: Moontripper's "Phases Of The Moon (remixes)" 12", the "Manic Suspension" EP from Bench, and ADT's "New Dawn" single. Of these, the title track of the latter piece is the winner. It lifts huge chunks of a soothing Nina Simone vocal that has been used before, but not better. Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy return as System 7 for "Golden Section" [Hypnotic/Los Angeles], their fifth North American release. Unfortunately, the flashes of electronic brilliance shown here are too often overshadowed by unforgivable prog rock posturing. Hillage should have left this side of himself behind long ago. Manchester's Avatar (Alex Bradley) is off to a good start as he merges techno and breakbeat on "Deep Architecture" [Pagan America]. In a more experimental vein, San Francisco's ubiquitous Darkhouse has put out an eponymous offering on the eclectic Three Sixty, Dogon's "The Sirius Expeditions" on New Dog is their scattershot sophomore effort, and Silent's "Skampler" brings the artists of the fine Skam label (run by the UK's Autechre) to our shores. Until now, these tracks have been virtually impossible to purchase, so now is your chance to check out one of England's better electronics labels. Also worth investigating are Heaven Deconstruction and Comet--two instrumental experimental side projects from The Young Gods' founder Franz Treichler and Alain Monod, respectively [both Mutant Sound System/New York].
